Elevate Your Style: Create Your Own Elegant Pearl Drop Earrings

I recently had an occasion where I needed to look smart and, after putting my outfit together, I felt that the finishing touch would be an elegant pair of earrings. After years of making fun polymer clay and beaded jewellery, I felt that nothing in my jewellery stash fitted the ‘elegant’ brief and I needed to make something that would suit my needs. Pearls are such a classic choice when it comes to looking smart and put together and they seem to be having a little bit of a revival at the moment so I thought I would use them along with gold findings and seed beads.

The beauty of this tutorial is that, if you are already a jewellery maker, you will have most of the needed supplies already to hand.

Gathering Your Materials

To make these earrings you will need a few jewellery making supplies.

You will need –

• 4 x 5mm pearls (two for each earring)
• 16 x size 11 gold seed beads
• 12 x size 8 cream seed beads
• 2 x 2″ gold plated eye pins
• 2 x gold plated head pins
• 2 x 6mm gold plated jump rings
• 2 x gold plated earring wires

You will also need wire cutters, round nose and flat nose pliers and a pen or something similar to shape your eye pin around. Once you have gathered your supplies you are ready to make your earrings. These won’t take long at all so they are perfect if you are short on time.

How To Make Elegant Pearl Drop Earrings

Step 1 – On a 2″ eye pin pick up 4 gold size 11 seed beads, alternating them with 3 size 8 cream seeds beads. Pick up a 5mm pearl and then add gold and cream seed beads on the other side of the pearl to match the first side.

Step 2 – Holding onto the end of your eye pin (one end is still open so you may loose some beads if you are not careful) gently bend the eye pin around a pen or something of a similar shape, making sure to keep the pearl in the centre of the bend and both sides equal.

I bend the wire at this point (before I loop the other end of the wire) so that the beads have room to move along the eye pin to accommodate the bend. If the seed beads get put under pressure then they will easily break.

Step 3 – Put another 5mm pearl on a gold plated head pin and make a loop above the bead.

Step 4 – Cut the excess wire on the eye pin and make a loop on the end to match the loop on the other side. Make sure the loops are sideways and facing each other.

Step 5 – Open the jump ring and add one half the eye pin. Next, add on the single pearl drop and then add the second half of the eye pin and close the jump ring.

Step 6 – Add your earring wires and make the second earring.
