The sun is shining and, true to form, I start spending endless hours dreaming about being near the beach and dipping my toes in the sea. The seaside is definitely my happy place. Unfortunately for me, I live nowhere near the coast and so I need to find other ways to invoke those memories of sandy toes and lapping waves and what better way than with a brick stitch tutorial. I had so many ideas floating around but settled on this cute and colourful tropical fish. Granted, I wouldn’t be finding too many of these swimming around the British coastline but if I am going to dream of sandy beaches I may as well add a lovely hot climate in as well!!!

If you have followed any of my other brick stitch tutorials then you will perhaps be aware that they are usually easy and beginner friendly. This brick stitch has a few more interesting twists and turns so I would class it as a more intermediate pattern but I do show all the fiddly bits in the video tutorial.

Before you head off into this tutorial I just wanted to share a lovely new fish peyote triangle pattern available in my Etsy shop. You can read more about this peyote triangle – Fish in the Sea here.

I have tried a new way to build my patterns so there is a new and improved (I hope) pdf pattern available with this tutorial.

I had a good rummage in my bead stash to find a few beads and spacers to add a little extra something to my fish and turned them into a long pair of earrings. I have already worn these quite a few times and they never fail to bring a smile to my face.

Let me know in the comments if there is anything that you would love to make this summer or is crafting not your thing once the sun is shining and being outdoors is more tempting?

I hope to be back soon with a few more summer inspired tutorials but until then, thanks for reading and happy beading.
