Easy Brick Stitch Pansy Tutorial Suitable for Beginners

A Pinterest pin for a tutorial on how to make brick stitch pansies

It has been so long since I made a brick stitch pattern for my blog and YouTube. I am in full summer gardening mode so I have opted to recreate a simple and elegant pansy flower in brick stitch. I mean, it could also be a viola if you like seeing as they look very similar!

The joy of this tutorial is that it is very beginner friendly as I literally stitch every bead on camera.

As with most of my brick stitch tutorials, I have a free pdf pattern available. The video tutorial is linked just below this.

Tools and Supplies

Before we get started on the tutorial, I will cover the beads and supplies I have used to make my brick stitch pansies.

  • Delica size 11 in Purple Iris DB004
  • Delica size 11 in Duracoat Opaque Dark Orchid DB2139
  • Delica size 11 Sparkling Purple Lined DB906
  • Delica size 11 Opaque Canary Yellow DB1132
  • Delica size 11 Opaque White DB200
  • Beading thread
  • Beading needle

You will also need the beading pattern and/or video tutorial.

If you are choosing your own colour scheme for this pattern them aim to get a good contrast between the bead colours. Pansies have very distinct patterning and high contrast beads really help to show this off. Also, choose a lovely bright yellow for the flower centre for an added pop of colour and contrast.

Colour Choice

Pansies come in a variety of colours so let yourself have fun when it comes to making yours. If you wish to go bright, then opt for yellow but if you want a softer look then pale blue would look lovely. Pansies often have petals of different colours ; yellow at the front with blue or purple petals behind.

I pulled out some pink and red beads from my Delica collection that I thought would look lovely. These were Matte Rose, Matte Red AB and Transparent Dark Red. The white and yellow beads would have remained that same. I am still tempted to go back and bead them into pansies. It really was a close call between these and the purple beads I chose for this tutorial.

How To Use The Brick Stitch Pansies

I have opted to make my pansies into a necklace. They would also look lovely as earrings. They could also make a beautiful bracelet. I also considered adding wire stems to them. This way, I could pop them into a little vase.

They would also look lovely strung together like bunting to add personality to a shelf.
