Flat Herringbone Bracelet Tutorial

A Pinterest pin showing a pictures of a herringbone bracelet made from seed beads. The text reads 'Flat Herringbone Bracelet Tutorial'

This weeks tutorial looks at a stitch that I have never shard on my blog before – herringbone stitch. I show in this video tutorial how to made a stunning flat herringbone seed bead bracelet.

When I was thinking about this weeks tutorial all I kept thinking about was my stash of seed beads. I was already thinking about making a herringbone stitch pattern. I had a lot of fun creating last weeks Super Duo and seed bead heart bracelet tutorial especially as I got to dig around my seed beads to find what would work well with my red Super Duos. I have been focusing on my Delica bead projects a lot over the last few months so it was like finding old friends rummaging through my seed bead boxes.

I found three shades of green seed beads that I though looked nice together and knew that a herringbone bracelet would show the off nicely.

Beads and Supplies

I chose seed beads that I have had in my beading stash for many years. The shop I bought them from sadly no longer exists so whilst I will list the colours, I cannot check on what brand they are.

All the seed beads are size 11 and are in the colours :

  • Emerald Frosted AB
  • Cylon Pale Green
  • Silver Lined Jade Green

You will also need;

  • A beading needle
  • Beading thread (it is best to use a thread to match your bead colour as you will be able to see it)
  • Jump rings
  • Clasp

About This Herringbone Bracelet Tutorial

I have covered every step in this tutorial. It starts with me showing how to build the first layer of beading before moving onto show the basic flat herringbone stitch. After I have beaded about half of the bracelet I show how I add more thread to the project, including showing how to tie your knots in the thread. I then finish by showing how I use brick stitch to taper off the end of the bracelet so that I can add a clasp.

I prefer to do this stitch with beads that have straighter sides so I avoided choosing beads that were very round. I also need to remind myself frequently not to over tighten my thread as I was beading (I am aware that I tend to pull those threads very tight) so that I didn’t buckle the beading.
