Pip and Candy Bead Earrings – A Free Bead Weaving Tutorial

I found myself rummaging around my various boxes of beads this week looking for inspiration for this weeks bead weaving tutorial. I came across my various pip and candy beads and decided that this week was their moment to shine. After spending some time playing around with various ideas I came up with these flower earrings. They are fun, colourful and fancy enough to be used for special occasions.

I have made these beaded flowers into earrings but they could easily be used as necklace pendants or strung / linked together to make a bracelet.

Beads and Supplies

For this pattern I have used –

  • Preciosa Pip Beads in Turquoise
  • 8mm Preciosa Candy Beads in Pearl White
  • Size 11 Seed Beads in Light Rose Lined Peach
  • Size 15 Toho Silver Lined Seed Beads in Rosaline
  • Beading Thread
  • A Beading Needle
  • Silver Plated Earring Wires

About These Pip and Candy Bead Earrings

I had a lot of fun designing these. It has been a long time since I simply got out all the fancy beads that I have and just make something. This pattern is especially good because those tiny size 15 seed beads form a shiny beaded bezel around the Candy bead, giving the impression that they are holding the Candy bead in. In reality, the candy bead is being held in place using its two holes allowing for ease when making the bezel.

That being said, if you have some flat backed cabouchons that you would like to use then this technique would also work well.

Alternative Colour Options

I planned this tutorial as the sun was just peeking through and I think it shows as these earrings look ready for Spring and Summer events. If these colours are not for you then have a look through all the various colour options for the Pip and Candy beads.

There are various metallic finishes in both sets of beads along with some AB finishes. There are also some Candy beads with a speckled effects.

I would love to see these made with yellow Pip beads with copper Candy bead centres so that they look like sunflowers. For a totally different look they could be made with all metallic beads or with dark moody blues with silver seed beads. There are so many options.

Also, playing around with the colours of seed beads would give a totally different finish. I originally came up with this idea when I had green size 15 seed beads on my mat. Using these gave a much more subdued look to the earrings despite using the same turquoise Pip beads and white Candy Beads.
