I have struggled to know what to call this weeks tutorial because just saying it is a peyote heart pattern sounds a little misleading. This beaded heart starts out as a small peyote triangle with one side altered to form the top of a heart. So, in my head I have simply been calling this a peyote triangle heart.
In the video tutorial below, I show every step and every bead, from the basics of making a peyote triangle to shaping the top to form the heart shape and adding the wire guardian so the heart can be used for earrings or as a necklace pendant.
Beads and Supplies
This is a very simple project so the beads and beading supplies needed are minimal. I have used :
- Size 11 Delica in Silver Lined Gold (DB042)
- Size11 Delica in Opaque Dark Cranberry (DB723)
- Miyuki gold beading thread
- A beading needle
- Gold plated wire guardian
- Gold plated earring studs

Alternative Colour Choices
I have chosen to make this tutorial using a red and gold colour palette. I think it give a timeless and elegant finish plus, a bonus for me, it looks good on camera! In all seriousness though, I wanted to have a different colour around the outside of the heart so having two beads with a good contrast helped show this.
I have however made this heart with just red beads, using a shiny silver lined red bead for the centre with a matte red bead around the outside. It gave a lovely effect but it was hard to show on camera. I will be trying to find other ways of using this colour technique in the future though as it looked lovely.
These hearts don’t need to be made with a romantic look. They would look great made in bold blues or purples all strung together to make a bracelet. If you mix and match your bead finishes so that some are shiny and some are more matte it would change the look of the hearts again.
