A few weeks ago I bought the most gorgeous Bicone beads. I haven’t used bicones much before so when I saw them online in a mixed set of colours that reminded me of the ocean I just had to get them. They have been sitting in my bead box taunting me so I was keen to make something with them.
I spent much of Friday afternoon playing around with ideas and struck upon these beaded bicone earrings where I use size 15 seed beads to act as decoration around the bicones as well as to act as a faux beaded bezel for a 4mm faceted bead. I say ‘faux bezel’ as the bead is actually stitched in place.
As ever, I have linked the YouTube video below so I will just go into some basics first.
Tools and Supplies
This tutorial used a few simple beads and beading supplies. These are –
- 5mm Preciosa Bicones in Montana
- 4mm Faceted Blue bead (you could easily swap this out for a pearl)
- Size 15 Toho Silver Lined seed beads in Rosaline
- Size 15 Toho Transpared Lustre seed beads in Teal
- A beading needle
- Beading thread
- Silver plated eye pin
- Silver plated studs (or earring wire of your choice)

Colour Choice
I have used a mix of dark blue, mid blue and pale pink for my earrings but the colours could easily be changed to suit your own tastes. I think these would look lovely in purple and pink, perfect for spring and summer special occasions.
If you are altering the bead colours my main tip would be to match the second seed bead colour (this is the blue in my case) to the colour of the bead that you add to the centre of your beading. This just allows for more of the centre bead to be seen. I tried making these just with the pink seed beads and that lovely blue faceted bead got lost among them.

Bicone and Seed Bead Earring Tutorial
I realise now that these are a similar idea to my Pip and Candy bead earring tutorial so if you have enjoyed this tutorial then you might also like that tutorial.
I’m off now to tidy my desk as I have managed to get virtually every bead I own out in designing these earrings!
