My garden has been glorious this summer. It was my second year of trying to grow a garden full of flowers, vegetables and fruit. Mid spring we renovated a small patch of grass to house my small vegetable garden and, ever since then, it has been full of the most delicious vegetables and gorgeous sunflowers.
Not a single sunflower seed germinated last year and I was gutted so I went over board this year and planted about 20 seeds. The germination rate was spectacular so they have been one of the biggest highlights of my summer garden. I have spent so much time watching the little flower heads pop up and the petals open to reveal the sunflower. My sunflowers ranged from dwarf varieties to large multi headed red ones. If you were planning of planting sunflowers next year, I would definitely recommend on planting a selection of varieties as it gave a gorgeous range of colour and heights to my garden.
Bees are obviously very important for pollination in any garden and especially so in a vegetable garden. With this in mind I planted some of them in pots to have as a back ground to my tomato plants. The result was a constant hum of bees whenever I went out to tend to my plants.
Now obviously I am not a gardening blog so back to the beading. My creative work mostly reflects my passions and my immediate world around me so this has obviously lead me to this peyote triangle pattern.
This pattern is available in my Etsy shop as one of my paid for tutorials. You can grab yourself a copy here – Sunflower and Bees Peyote Triangle Pattern

Colour Variations
I have stuck to traditional colours for my sunflower but you could easily alter it to suit your own preferences. I would love to make one that had red petals to match the ones I have grown in my garden.
If you are choosing your own colours then do think about the contrast with the other colours around it. I have used two distinct shades of yellow for the petals. These could be substituted with pink and red or pale blue and a darker blue.
If you are switching up the petal colours then also consider the background colour too. To bring a more summery look you could opt for a mid blue (a pale blue would be too similar to the white of the bees wings).
