Peyote Nutcracker Patter

A picture showing three images of a peyote stitch Nutcracker

Hello all, I wanted to pop of here to show you my newest Etsy pattern – a peyote/brick stitch Nutcracker. I am trying not to let the guilt of this being yet again another paid tutorial get to me too much because this Peyote Nutcracker is the cutest thing. It also took me a month to get made, photographed and sorted so I am way behind schedule with all my Christmas crafting.

About The Pattern

I have made this pattern a little differently to how I usually would (this is one of the reasons as to why it has taken me so long to get it finished). I realised quite early on that, because of all the increases and decreases in the shape of the Nutcracker, that this was going to be a fiddly pattern to make.

This also mean that, unless you are very comfortable at interpreting pattern diagrams along side the word chart, it was going to be too difficult for those with minimal knowledge of peyote to understand.

With this in mind, this pattern is in 5 parts –

  • A full peyote pattern of the Nutcracker as a whole
  • A pattern for an odd count peyote of the torso and legs
  • A pattern for brick stitch arms
  • A pattern for a brick stitch head
  • An instruction booklet showing how too attach the arms and head to the body.

This now means that, if you have a basic understanding of peyote and brick stitch, you can add extra thread to your bead work and you are able to tie knots in the threads, then this project if easily done. I really hope that it makes buying this pattern less daunting if your are a less experienced beader.

The instruction booklet has clear photos and written instructions, including showing how I added the beaded loop to the top of the Nutcracker so he can hang on my Christmas tree.

Tools and Supplies

For this pattern I have used –

You can obviously alter the colours to suit your tastes (a dark blue jacket would look amazing!) but I really wanted to stick with a traditional Christmas palette of red, green and gold.

Your finished Nutcracker will be 8cm tall and 2.5cm at its widest point so it will not get lost among your other tree decorations.

Below is a short video showing me beading the Nutcracker. I hope you love him as much as I do.

I’ll leave you with one more look at the Nutcracker with his beading pattern.
