Beaded Rose – A PDF Brick Stitch Pattern

Brick Stitch Rose Pattern

It has been a while since I did a brick stitch pattern so I opened my box of Delica beads in the hope of finding inspiration. The most gorgeous red beads caught my eye so I thought that I would made a rose brick stitch pattern to celebrate Valentine’s day. Of course, roses can be symbolic all year round. With so many colours of beads to choose from, your roses can be a beautiful mix of colours.

I will briefly cover a few aspects of the pattern here. You can buy this brick stitch rose pattern on my Etsy shop. I will also link a YouTube short I made of the rose being made towards the end of this post.

Beads and Supplies

For this pattern you will need –

  • Delica size 11 Opaque Light Siam (DB727)
  • Delica size 11 Metallic Bronze (DB022)
  • Beading thread (I used my trusty Beadalon Wildfire in black 0.006″)
  • Beading needle
  • Rose Pattern

You will also need an understanding of how to do brick stitch as this is a pattern only. If brick stitch is relatively new to you and you would like some easier projects then check out my free brick stitch tutorials. My brick stitch heart tutorial and brick stitch evil eye tutorial are particularly beginner friendly.

What is Included in the Brick Stitch Rose Pattern

In this pattern you will find –

  • A front cover image of the bead pattern
  • A bead list with bead count and symbols
  • Basic instructions, such as thread length
  • A pattern diagram
  • A word chart

I have included a basic overview on where you can start your beading as there are some slightly trickier parts. These are where the bead work increases beyond what is possible by regular brick stitch. If you are less comfortable with adding these extra beads then the rose pattern can be made in two halves; working from the middle of the pattern outwards. Doing this means that those trickier parts can be avoided.

About the Brick Stitch Rose and How to Personalize It

The finished rose is larger than my free brick stitch pieces. I wanted to get as much detail into it so adding plenty of petals was important. The finished rose measures 1 3/4″ x 1 1/2″ so is large enough be used a statement piece on an item of jewellery or accessory. I have added my beaded rose onto a hair clip as an experiment. It works really well and adds an instant pop of colour to any hairstyle.

If you wish to make your rose in a different colour combination then chose colours with a high contrast. The bronze beads in my pattern are dark enough to add definition between the petals but not too harsh to make it look cartoonish. Before beading, tip some beads out and place them side by side. Look at the colour contrast to make sure that the darker shade will add the distinction needed in the petals.

The bronze beads in my finished rose are metallic. This means they give extra shine as they catch the light and add a little touch of glamour. If you are choosing your own beads for this project, consider mixing different bead finishes for a similar look.
