Week 1 – The 52 Week Illustration Challenge

Christmas is over and the kids are back at school so its time for me to set myself a new challenge for the year.

About 6 months ago I came across the ’52 week Illustration Challenge’ on Facebook  – A word prompt is given, one for each week of the year, and you interpret the word in any way you like and produce an illustration on that word. I found myself fascinated by all the wonderful artwork shared and felt in awe of the people who could create magical worlds with pencil and paints and wanted to have a go, but they were half way through the year and, being me, felt it wrong to start half way through (despite the ‘rules’ clearly saying that it is totally fine to do so). I gave myself the task of getting enough courage together to start in January and I did!

Week 1 : Whimsy

Watercolour and colour pencil for the face.

I’m hoping to push myself over this year to improve my drawing and painting and will be sharing my weekly picture on my blog, as well as Facebook.

Hoping to catch up on all the blog posts I’ve missed over the Christmas holidays 🙂

  1. Hands up all those who would like to live in this house! Such great imagination. A lovely illustration to kick off with.

  2. Awesome! I find trying to draw from memory or *shudder* imagination a terrifying ordeal and am in awe at the wonderful scenes people think up and then make so rich that I can fall into them.

  3. This is fab Hannah! I love anything with toadstools, so magical. I love all your work so I’m very excited to see something new every week. You really need to start selling it xx

    1. Ah, thank you so much. I’m excited at the idea of having (hopefully) 52 pictures at the end of the year. I’m trying to figure out the most cost effective way of getting prints made as I’m not sure my home printer is up to it. Another thing on my to do list lol. Hxx
