Mushroom Peyote Bracelet Pattern

Mushroom odd count peyote bracelet Pinterest pin

I have called this my ‘mushroom peyote bracelet’ as that is what I have been calling it since I came up with the initial pattern at the start of September. For a true whimsical feel though, I think they are perhaps more toadstools. In my mind toadstools are far more magical sounding that mushrooms and I will always be on the side of whimsy.

This mushroom (toadstool) odd count peyote pattern is available in my Etsy shop so I thought I would share a little about it here along with some photos and my short video.

About The Mushroom Peyote Bracelet

This is an odd count bracelet pattern so prior knowledge on how to do odd count peyote is needed. If you are new to odd count peyote and reading beading patterns, I do have a beginners guide to Peyote tutorial showing you all you would need to know to complete this pattern.

The pattern comprises of 224 rows of beading and has 13 columns. The total pattern length is 7.5″ (19cm) of beading but you can make any length of beading required; for a shorter bracelet, check the beading length as you go and stop when needed, allowing room for your clasp to be added. This pattern has been designed to repeat so, for a longer length of beading simply return to the start. Full instructions on how to do this has been included in the ‘instruction section’ at the start of the pattern. This would be particularly useful if you wished to make this pattern into a choker or bookmark.

The finished bracelet will be 0.67″ (1.69cm) wide so not quite as skinny as some of my other bracelets but certainly not a wide bracelet.

The pattern includes:

  • Delica bead list (size 11)
  • Bead count
  • Beading Instructions
  • Diagram
  • Word chart

This is a digital PDF pattern only so prior knowledge of odd count peyote stitch, how to start and finish beading and how to add more thread during beading is required.

Colour Choices

As ever, when I design a pattern I spend as long on choosing my beads as I do on designing and refining the pattern. I really wanted to have a night sky effect as it’s far more magical in my opinion and allowed me to add sparkling moons and stars. My first decision was what my main sky colour was going to be. I felt that black would be too dark and stark against the mushrooms. I didn’t want the focus to be taken off the mushrooms and all the details by drowning the pattern in black. I opted for a dark metallic grey/blue as it was dark enough to be a night sky but balanced enough with the other colour choices to not steal attention.

My toadstools originally started out as a gorgeous burgundy/red bead. I felt so sure that they were perfect but once I started beading it soon became clear that the mushrooms were blending into the background rather than being the focal point. I changed the mushrooms to a much brighter red and now they stand out centre stage along the bracelet.

I added tiny moons and stars with shiny silver lined beads for some lovely magical sparkle to break up the dark grey sky. The grass was added with a mid toned silver lined green so that it looks like the night sky is lighting it up.

Finally the dots on the toadstools were added with a white satin bead. An opaque white bead would look good here too but I really wanted the dots to shine and sparkle as it moves when it is worn. I really wanted to capture a little magic in this pattern and these beads certainly helped.

The balance of the shiny green, white satin beads and silver moon and stars mean that there is shine and sparkle balanced along the whole width of the pattern.

I will leave you with my YouTube short showing the stages and making of this pattern. If you are a beader with a dream of the magical and whimsical then do check out the full mushroom peyote pattern on Etsy.

I had hoped for more magical beading in celebration of Halloween but I fear that I am running out of time. I will have to add as much magic into Christmas to make up for it!

Thanks for reading.
