Create a Quick Seed Bead Cat Head – An Easy Halloween Crafting Tutorial

Halloween cat easy seed bead tutorial by the artisan duck

I inadvertently started a series on TikTok of easy seed bead makes. It started with a request for a star and grew from there. My most recent beading TikTok was for a really easy, cute, black cat made with only a few seed beads. Whilst I plan on making all those little seed bead makes into blog tutorials / YouTube videos, I figured the most logical one to start with is my black cat head as Halloween will soon be fast upon us and us crafty sorts like to get started early!

This beaded black cat has to be one of my easiest bead weaving tutorials so it is perfect if you are new to bead weaving and looking for a place to start.

For this cat you will need just a few black seed beads in a size 8 and size 11 and a pink bead for the cat’s nose in a size 8. I would also recommend a black beading thread and beading needle.

I will link the YouTube video below for those who prefer a video tutorial and, if you are stuck on tying knots in your threads, I cover this in the video too.

How To Make A Seed Bead Cat Head

Step 1 – Pick up 6 size 8 black seed beads and alternate them with 6 size 11 black seed beads. Take them down the thread and, leaving a small tail thread, tie a knot to pull the beads together into a loop.

Take the needle through the beads to hide the knot and make sure to exit out of one of the size 8 beads.

Pick up the pink size 8 bead on your needle.

Step 2 – Put the pink bead in the middle of the beaded loop and find the size 8 black bead that sits directly opposite to where you are exiting from. Take the needle into this bead.

Next, take the needle back up through the pink bead and back into the first size 8 that you originally exited from. This should now position the pink bead firmly in the centre.

Step 3 – On your needle, pick up 1 size 11 black bead, 1 size 8 black bead and another size 11 black bead. Take the needle into the next size 8 black bead in the beaded circle. Pull the thread tight and the beads should form a triangle – this is the first cats ear.

Take your needle through around the beaded circle, passing through 4 more of the size 8 black seed beads.

Step 4 – For the second ear, pick up another size 11 bead, followed by a size 8 and then another size 11 bead. Take the needle into the next black size 8 bead in the beaded circle (it should be where you started the first ear!) and pull tight to form the ear.

You just need to tie some knots (see the video below on how to tie knots) and cut off the excess threads.

I have simply hung my cats from jump rings and chain for a pair of cute Halloween earrings.

Let me know how you got on with that and if there are any other tutorials you would like to see – I shall add it to the list that I have from TikTok!

Thanks for reading,

Hannah
