I allowed myself the time to ‘play’ at my craft table the other day. I had bought a Tim Holtz die and embossing folder months ago as an ‘I absolutely must have them’ type scenario played out late one evening whilst browsing Amazon but I had never actually got round to using them (shameful, I know). We have quite a few female birthdays in my family this time of year so another birthday card was a logical thing to make.
Crafty stash used;
- Sizzix/Tim Holtz Butterfly duo (bigz die and embossing folder)
- Distress ink pads in Tattered Rose, Milled Lavender, Dusty Concord, Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon and Vintage Photo
- Ranger Perfect Pearls in Interference Violet, Interference Blue and Heirloom Gold
- Tim Holtz stencils – Latticework and Bubble
- Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap and Tissue Tape
- DoCrafts/ X Cut Decorative Dies – Tags and Bookplates
- Twine, self adhesive jewels and Gesso
Reading that it looks as if I am a bit of a Tim Holtz addict and to be truthful I probably am! To start with I cut a piece of card to size and glued the tissue wrap all over the front and tucking the edges all the way round rather than cutting them off. It gave a nice neat finish. I covered the whole thing with gesso. Whilst this was drying I inked a piece of card with all the various distress ink colours (except vintage photo), cut them out and embossed them. I gently rubbed the darkest ink pads over the top of the butterflies to pick out the raised detail and brushed over the perfect pearls whilst the ink was still wet.
Once the base card piece was dry I used the various ink pads to colour the background and added some stencilled detail using the same ink pads for some subtle texture. I stamped and die cut the sentiment. I decided towards the end that the whole thing needed something more (like when you know its lacking something but have no idea what) so I added some vintage photo around the edge of the butterflies and the inked background panel. The whole thing was then stuck down.
It’s always lovely to be able to just sit and enjoy making something without worrying about everything else I ‘should’ be doing. I got lovely and inky with this card although I’m not sure what my hairdresser thought later that day when she saw my blue fingers!
